National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER)

CENER is a technological centre, specialising in applied research and the development and promotion of renewable energies. It is characterised by a high degree of skills, plus renowned national and international prestige.

The CENER-CIEMAT Foundation began to operate in 2001 and is sponsored by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of Spain, Ciemat, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism and the Government of Navarre.

It currently offers services and carries out research projects in 6 areas: wind energy; thermal and photovoltaic solar energy; biomass energy; energy efficiency in buildings and renewable energies grid integration.

CENER’s headquarters are located in the City of Innovation (Sarriguren I Navarra), although it has other facilities and offices in Sangüesa, Alaiz and Aoiz (Navarre), Seville and Madrid.

CENER focuses its activities in three directions:

  1.  Development of technology through R+D+I, promoting the creation, acquisition and dissemination of knowledge to the industrial sector.
  2.  Rendering of technical aid and high quality services for tests and component certification.
  3.  Consultancy services; technical and economic viability studies.

CENER’s activity covers a broad spectrum of services related to the generation of energy from renewable resources:

  •   Determination and assessment of the renewable resource.
  •   Development of simulation and design equipment.
  •   Development of renewable energy generation technologies.
  •   Definition and implementation of component and complete systems testing.
  •   Assessment of technological risks.
  •   Technical-economic viability study of projects.
  •   Consultancy service for energy planning, promotion and development.
  •   Development and application of regulations.
  •   Specific training in renewable technologies.
